Between studio projects, Dean directed the critically lauded Heima (2007), a concert documentary about Icelandic post rock group Sigur Rós. He later directed, filmed, and edited Go Quiet (2010), a feature-length music film featuring Sigur Rós front-man, Jónsi. In addition to his animation and documentary work, Dean has set up several original live-action feature projects to write, direct and produce, including The Banshee and Finn Magee (The Walt Disney Studios), Sightings (Universal Studios), and The Lighthouse (Buena Vista Studios).
Dean began his career in 1988 at the age of eighteen, working as an animator for Hinton Animation Studios’ The Raccoons television series. He left Canada in 1990 to join Don Bluth Studios in Ireland, where he served as a layout artist on A Troll in Central Park (1993) and Thumbelina (1994).
