Award-winning writer and director Andrew Kavanagh founded Kavaleer in 2001 and as CEO is passionate about shaping the company’s creative output and distinctive brand. He has enjoyed critical and commercial success over the 15 years since Kavaleer’s inception as creator / executive producer of Garth & Bev (2011, 26 x11 preschool), Wildernuts (2013, 52 x 7, preschool), and Kiva Can Do! (52 x 11, preschool), which premiered on RTÉJr (Ireland) and Tiji (France) at the end of 2016. Andrew heads up Kavaleer’s development slate and is in late-stage development on a 52 x11 action-comedy for 6-9s Dougie Noir (with WDR Media Group, Germany). Kavaleer’s latest preschool show Alva & the Trolls (52 x 11) launched at Cartoon Forum in September 2016 and has begun financing.
Andrew is passionate about social curriculum and innovative tech, and enjoys pushing the boundaries both in terms of content and interactive spin-out across Kavaleer’s slate of creative properties. He has twice been nominated for an IFTA (Irish Film and Television Academy Award) and most recently won the 2016 Director’s Choice award at the Boston Irish Film Festival. In additional to his creative role at Kavaleer, Andrew co-manages the company with partner Gary Timpson.
